Overview of Parx online gambling plans
Parx Casino and Racing is one of eight Pennsylvania casinos that put in an application for a trio of interactive gaming licenses offered by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB). For $10 million, Parx will be able to offer online slot play, online table games, and peer-to-peer games, which basically means online poker.
The online casino launched with slots and a few different table games
Parx has a deal with software developer GAN.
GAN’s offering includes online sports betting in addition to the other types of gaming. PGCB conditionally approved its license at its Oct. 1 meeting. The retail sportsbook launched in January 2018, then the online betting app followed on June 27.

Parx offers their land-based casino and sportsbook players access to their XClubloyalty program where players earncredits based on their play.
These credits earn players free slot play, on-site promotions and perks, discounts at local businesses, sweepstake entries and more. New players who sign up for the XClub program receive $10 in free slot play at the Parx Casino and Racetrack.
For both the Parx sportsbook and the Parx online casino, players can sync up their play and sports betting with their XClub account in order to accrue awards they can redeem at the Parx Casino property in Bensalem.
Parx online casino software
Parx is partnered with gaming technology company GAN, an industry leader with experience in the US market. GAN is also partnered with Betfair and Ocean Casino in New Jersey. They have also operated Parx’s social casino since 2015. This partnership, along with the land-based casino’s stellar reputation, makes Parx a force to be reckoned with.
Parx mobile app
At Parx online casino, players can play from their mobile devices anywhere in Pennsylvania.
Due to Apple’s policy change, the availability in the app store has put a damper on online gaming though. Currently, there is no solution for the nearly half of people with iPhones.
Android users can download the app from the Parx website. Unfortunately, the GooglePlay store does not accept gambling apps. The good news is, because the sportsbook and casino are integrated, you only need to download a single app.
To play on the Parx online casino app, players will need to be within the state of Pennsylvania. Some players with poor reception and who are close to the border may have trouble with geolocation. However, connecting to Wi-Fi or contacting support can usually fix this.
Parx Online Casino games
Parx Casino and Racing began operating in 2006 and has grown significantly.
Its popular casino floor boasts more than 3,500 slot machines and more than 130 live table games. There are also two poker rooms with 125 tables and the complex overlooks a functioning racetrack. As of January, Parx also is home to a live sportsbook.
Parx will look to expand its popularity with the online casino. With industry veteran GAN as a partner, Parx will certainly release an abundant number of games for players to enjoy online.
Parx online casino slots
Parx is a casino known for its expansive slot selection, so we are certain online slot players will be satisfied. The Parx social casino offers more than 170 slot titles.
Some popular games available at launch are:
- Jack and the Beanstalk
- Leonidas: King of Spartans
- Wold Cub
- Witchcraft Academy
Parx live dealer
An immensely popular feature for online casinos is live dealer games. These games bring the casino to the player by incorporating the interactive feature of streaming the game live.
Parx’s technology partner GAN has seen this success with Betfair. While live dealer was not available at launch, Parx announced it will eventually be part of its online casino offering.
Online video poker
Parx Casino Online Gambling Sites
Slot machines are far from the only games at Parx Casino. There are also varieties of video poker for online casino players to choose from. Currently, the site offers Jacks or Better video poker as well as Deuces Wild.
Other online games
Parx will offer a wide range of games other than slots for players to enjoy online eventually. At launch, you could play real money blackjack and both American and European roulette. There should be plenty of new games coming as the site develops though, such as:
- Craps
- Midi and mini-Baccarat
- Spanish 21
- Three card poker
- Four card poker
- Pai gow poker
- Pai gow tiles
- Sic Bo
- Let It Ride
- Casino War
- Big Six wheel
It is important to familiarize yourself with the format and rules of whatever game you decide to play. Also, try to avoid the games with the highest house and instead play games like blackjack, craps, and baccarat, which give you a better chance to win. One game that has a very high house edge and therefore you should not make a habit of playing is the Big Six wheel.
Online blackjack
With its reputation as both a game with a low house edge and one where both luck and skill determine the outcome, blackjack the casino’s most popular table game. The online offering should offer the same favorable odds.
Blackjack comes in many different variations, and these differences in the rules can also affect the likelihood of winning. But, in case you are wondering if any Pennsylvania casinos offer a better blackjack game than the others, the answer is that where you play doesn’t matter. All of the Pennsylvania casinos have the same rules, which have been preset by the PGCB and which give Pennsylvania one of the best blackjack games in the country. There is still a small house edge, but using basic strategy, it is only about .40 percent. Here are the PA rules:
- Blackjack pays 3:2
- Dealer stands on soft 17
- Doubling down permitted on any two cards
- Doubling down after splits
- Splits up to three hands (except aces)
- Late surrender (If the dealer does not have a blackjack, players who don’t like their hand can choose not to play it and give up half their bet.)
Blackjack side bets
Where the individual Pennsylvania casinos may differ is in the optional side bets that blackjack players can also make. These extra bets add to the cost of playing and have a higher house edge than the standard bets (following basic strategy), so other than making them very occasionally for small stakes just for fun, they are not recommended.
Parx online casino banking options
Getting money to and from online accounts safely and securely is key for new online players. Parx will offer a variety of options for players to deposit and withdraw from their account.
Players can expect to see the following options for casino deposits at Parx:
- ACH or e-check: This option is like writing a check directly from a bank account. While funds will be available to the online gaming account, it may take a few days to come from the bank account. Because of this, the ACH provider may place limits on deposit amounts.
- Visa, Mastercard, or discover: One of the most popular forms of payment is now available for online bets.
- Prepaid card: While this isn’t confirmed by Parx, many online casino operators offer a branded prepaid card for funding a player’s account.
- PayNearMe: Players can download a voucher and bring it to their local 7-Eleven convenience store to fund their account.
- Cash at the Parx Casino Cage: Players will be able to fund their online account at the cashier’s cage in the Parx Casino and Racetrack in Bensalem, PA.

Parx Casino land-based overview
Who can play in the Parx casino?
The minimum age to gamble at Parx Casino and Racetrack is 21, the same as at all of the licensed Pennsylvania casinos. This age requirement, set by the PGCB, is strictly enforced.
Security and fairness
Parx Casino and Racing, along with all of the other currently operating legal casinos in Pennsylvania, is licensed and regulated by the PGCB. This agency continues to monitor all aspects of each facility’s operation to ensure and maintain the highest standards for security and fairness.
Another reason Parx is safe and secure is its own long and impressive history in the gambling business. The PA racetrack has been not only been operating successfully for more than 40 years, but it also features prestigious races like the Pennsylvania Derby. Obviously, the horses’ owners and trainers are not about to jeopardize their well-earned professional reputation by being involved in any way with an operation whose integrity is in the least bit suspect.
Furthermore, out of all of the casinos in Pennsylvania, Parx was singled out to receive Philadelphia Magazine’sBest of Philly Award for 2016. While this casino, along with all of the other Pennsylvania casinos, has had its share of complaints from slots players about the machines being tight, the figures for July, 2016 show that the returns at Parx are above the norm for this state. Out of the 12 currently operating Pennsylvania casinos, a comparison of the slots payouts for July, 2016 showed that Parx was the best of the bunch with a payback percentage of 91.1 percent.
Lawyers for three off-track bettingsites tied to Parx Casino and Racing have quietly sought permission to relocate the licenses of sites in:
- South Philly (Turf Club)
- Upper Darby in Delaware County
- Montgomery County (The Oaks)
Petitions filed with Pennsylvania regulators ask for approval to move the sports betting and pari-mutuel sites to Chickie’s & Pete’s restaurants, a popular casual eating and sports bar chain.
The petitions hint that betting sites at additional locations may be sought in the future with Parx’s additional licenses.
With the ascent of retail and online sports betting and online horse betting in PA, combined with several months of COVID-19 disruptions, few OTB locations remain open.
Parx sought expedited approval without public input
Petitions seeking the changes expressly asked the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission to approve the requests “on an expedited basis” and “without requiring a written public comment period or public comment hearing.”
The current locations are closed or struggling, which is clear in the redacted petitions provided to PlayPennsylvania by the racing commission:
“The partnership and the OTB relocations will reinvigorate … off-track betting operations, bring a new set of customers to the pari-mutuel wagering industry and increase pari-mutuel wagering revenues. Such partnerships, with the built-in potential new customer base and marketing synergies they offer, represent a viable model for the future of off-track facilities.
“Absent the ability to co-locate facilities and take advantage of such relationships, the OTB concept will face significant challenges and continued closures, as the old model is not sustainable given current patron trends and existing facilities that are too large for the market.”
Parx lawyer responds
Mark Stewart, a Harrisburg-based lawyer for Parx, spoke with PlayPennsylvania. Stewart said the current stand-alone OTB model is not the best concept. The proposed moves would allow Parx to modernize its OTB offerings, he added.
Parx already has Chickie’s & Pete’s wagering operations at the casino in Bensalem, Bucks County and Egg Harbor Township in Atlantic County, NJ. The companies are looking to build on that experience, said Stewart.
The gambling spaces would be separate from regular dining areas within the restaurant. Only those above the age of 21 could enter.
Stewart said his client sought no public comment because plans “are very similar, in our view” to what is already allowed.
Shannon Powers, a spokeswoman for the race commission, said there is no decision yet on the request. She added the law is open-ended about allowing for public comment or a hearing in such circumstances.
An agenda for the race commission typically comes out just a few days before a board meeting. The next meeting is on Feb. 23.
Sports wagering will come with horse racing
Approving pari-mutuel wagering automatically allows an applicant to also add sports wagering. That is according to Doug Harbach, the spokesman for Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
Once the pari-mutuel license changes get approval from the racing commission, the PGCB’s sole role is to test and approve sports betting systems and technology, he added.
Details from the OTB move petitions
The petitions released by the racing commission redact financial information.
According to one petition, the shuttered Oaks Race and Sportsbook would move operations to 10-20 Liberty Boulevard, East Whiteland Township, where a new Chickie’s & Pete’s is planned. The proposed location is in Chester County.
The Turf Club location at 150 S. 69th St. in Upper Darby had closed a decade ago. The petition seeks to relocate those operations to the Chickie’s and Pete’s at Pilgrim Gardens Shopping Center at 5035 Township Line Road in the Drexel Hill section of Upper Darby.
The South Philadelphia Race & Sportsbook, better known as the Turf Club at 700 Packer Avenue, wants to move up the street to Chickie’s and Pete’s South Philadelphia location at 1526 Packer Avenue.
For a look at one of the full petitions (for The Oaks), see below.

‘This is exhausting,’ civic leader says
A local South Philly civic club leader adamantly opposes the move and the attempt to stifle public comment. She learned of the proposal because a zoning approval is necessary and neighbors got legal notices.
Barbara Capozzi greeted the request for no public comment with “This is exhausting.”
She said she intends to consult with the Packer Park Civic Association‘s lawyer.
